Feeding
Fats are a blend of animal fats and vegetable oils produced from the
rendering of tissues from mammals and poultry and also through
recycling of used cooking oil. This product provides valuable dietary
energy to feed products for the animal feed and ingredients industry.
Fats are used because of their high caloric value of feed ingredients
used for animal nutrition.
Tallow
is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, processed from suet. It is
solid at room temperature. Tallow is used in animal feed, to make soap,
for cooking, and also as a bird food. Historically, it was used to make
tallow candles, which were a cheaper alternative to wax candles.
Meat
and bone meal is a product of the rendering industry. It is typically
50% protein, 35% ash, 8-12% fat, and 4-7% moisture. It is primarily
used in the formulation of animal feed to improve the amino acid
profile of the feed.
Yellow
grease usually means used frying oils from deep fryers and restaurant
grease traps. It can also refer to lower quality grades of tallow from
rendering plants. It has been traditionally used as an animal feed
additive.
